Tuition:
The charge for tuition allows students to carry 12 to 16 hours each semester. Up to 4 hours may be taken in the January term without an additional charge if the full-time tuition rate is paid in fall or spring. A tuition overload fee of $678 is charged for each credit hour over 16 in fall or spring, or over 4 in January term. Students enrolled in less than 12 hours in fall or spring pay part-time tuition of $678 per credit hour. Tuition charges for January term when a student is not enrolled full-time in fall or spring is $678 per credit hour. Summer school tuition is offered at a reduced rate of $382 per credit hour. A non-refundable $100 deposit is required to register for summer courses.

Tuition covers the costs of basic instruction. Specific course fees may be added for individualized instruction, laboratory supplies, transportation, etc. January term travel fees and summer school charges are also published in separate bulletins. Students should contact the faculty member leading a January term travel course for advance payment deadlines.

Off-Campus Study:
Students are limited to one semester-long, non-MVNU off-campus study (OCS) program during their time at MVNU. If a student is granted an exception, the entire program cost will be his/her responsibility, along with any administrative costs assessed by MVNU as it deems appropriate. If a student is dismissed from an OCS program for any reason, the cost of returning home before the end of the program will be borne entirely by the student and there is no guarantee that the student will earn credit for academic work performed. The total number of students who can study in any OCS program is constrained by the financial resources available for such programs; thus, application does not guarantee approval.

Senior Citizens: (62 or over and retired)
may enroll tuition free on a space available basis. Senior citizens must pay the general fee and course fees. See the Admissions Office for details. Senior citizens cannot enroll in the adult-degree completion or graduate programs.

Room Charges:
Unmarried students not living with parents or guardians must room and board on campus. Exceptions to this requirement are made for students who are 23 or older by August 31. The annual housing charge is $4,056 for double occupancy. If single occupancy is requested (and available), the charge is $6,084. Laundry facilities are provided for residential students at no additional charge. Students who live on campus are required to purchase the university's meal plan.

The cost for a room during the January term for students who do not room on campus in the fall or spring is $451. Students are not permitted to occupy rooms during summer and other vacation periods without permission from the Director of Residence Life and the Student Accounts Office. When such permission is granted, a charge is assessed and must be pre-paid.

Meal Plan:
The fee is $3,204 for a continuous service meal plan. A la carte meal rates are higher and are published in the Dining Commons. Students who do not board on campus in the fall or spring are charged $356 for the January meal plan.

Technology Fee:
The Technology Fee allows for WiFi expansion, computer lab upgrades, and campus bandwidth increase.

Semester-Long Programs

Most requests for OCS pertain to programs that coincide with MVNU's fall or spring semester and may be categorized as (1) MVNU-accredited, (2) Nazarene Consortium, or (3) MVNU-affiliated.

  1. MVNU-Accredited
MVNU operates a program, in which students spend a semester in Costa Rica. Students are charged MVNU tuition; a semester of MVNU room and board; and a program fee of $850. A non-refundable $100 fee is also required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program. Transportation to/from Costa Rica is covered by the program budget. If airfare is purchased for the student prior to the student's cancellation, the student will be billed for the full value of the airfare. Students who participate in this program continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
  2. Nazarene Consortium
MVNU allows students to cross-register for a semester with a participating member of the Nazarene Consortium (host institution). Students will take classes at and live on the campus of the host institution. (The terms of this program are found in the "Cross-Registration Agreement for Nazarene Colleges and Universities," a copy of which is available from the Student Accounts Office.) The student will be billed by MVNU for MVNU tuition; the room, board and fees of the host institution; and a $500 administrative fee. A non-refundable $100 application fee is also required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program. Any amount billed by MVNU in excess of tuition is forwarded to the host institution. Students who participate in this program continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
  3. MVNU-Affiliated
Students may earn MVNU credit by participating in OCS programs offered by other institutions. Typically, these programs are sponsored by the CCCU; other programs require prior approval by MVNU before the student can make application. Participation requires an application process and prior approval by MVNU. (See the MVNU catalog for a listing of approved programs.) Students are charged for MVNU tuition; a semester of MVNU room and board; and a program fee of $850. A non-refundable $100 fee is required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program. Students also pay for any airfare that is associated with the trip. Students who participate in this program continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
J-Term or Summer School Programs

MVNU financial aid is not apportioned for any OCS program during January-term or Summer School. Typically, the cost of these programs is billed as a separate course fee. (In the case of the International Business Institute, the cost is billed as tuition and fees.) Prior to making application, students should consult with the Student Accounts Office to determine the cost and any other requirements. A $100 non-refundable application fee is required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program.
